My reply was that at this
stage of my life I am as healthy as I choose to be. In some ways
I could be healthier, and in other ways less healthy. The
important thing is, my state of health reflects my conscious choices.
To me, optimal health is a state of body, mind, and spirit where one
experiences living each moment of life to its fullest.
Since each one's life is
unique, in this sense we can't compare one life - or one state of
health - to another. All one can do is reflect on his own
experience and ask, "Am I living as fully as I possibly can?"
The
point is, when you are really healthy you are then able to experience
fulfillment, satisfaction and enjoyment in your life. Physical
health does not necessarily have to be present in order to experience
overall health. As I told the reporter, some of the healthiest
people I have met are in hospital-type settings and have less
than six months to live.
For these truly healthy
people, each moment of their lives is essentially richer than the lives of
those people who plod through their daily existence, barely aware of
the wonderful world and wonderful people around them. The truly
healthy people of the world know that happiness lies not in what we
get from the world but in the attitudes we bring to the world.
They know that a long life is an empty achievement
indeed unless those years are filled with purpose, happiness,
satisfaction, and LOVE. We do not, however, have to be moving
towards death to experience becoming more alive. Do not be one
of the many who say, "Someday I'll...". If not now, then when?? |
